Everything was excellent, and the atmosphere was wonderful. If you want to avoid a long wait, make sure to arrive before noon; otherwise, expect to stand in line."

Apr 21, 2026"This is the highest 5 stars I can give. I’ve given a lot of 5-star reviews, but this one is different. La Cova Fumada is the kind of place I imagine Anthony Bourdain would take Obama — no flash, no gimmicks, just honest, perfect food in a room that feels frozen in time. Hands down the best tapas I’ve ever had, and probably ever will have. The bomba alone is worth the trip — crispy, rich, spicy, unforgettable. Every dish felt simple but flawless. It’s not glamorous, and that’s exactly the point. The worn walls, the tight space, the energy — it all adds to the experience. This isn’t a restaurant trying to impress you. It just quietly delivers something special. If you’re in Barcelona and care about food, this is it."

Apr 07, 2026"We selected several marine dishes: sardines, octopus, squid and bomba (deep fried mashed potatoes). My favourite ones were octopus and sardines. Octopus: extremely tender, juicy and flavourful - a must try. The sauce in which it was submerged elevated the taste so this one was 5/5. Sardines the same, they were so fresh and didn't have the strong taste which I found wonderful. Calamari was great too but imo quite expensive compared to other dishes. Despite widespread online recommendations of bomba we didn't find it special and it was our least favourite tapas of all the dishes. The portions were on the smaller side here so I highly recommend getting a tomato toast to top up your calorie intake and keep you fuller. It's quite pricey given how small the portions were - yet they were authentic. To sum up, it's a great local experience. We needed to queue for about 30 minutes before being seated. You can choose to stand to possibly reduce the waiting time. The bill amounted to about €28. The staff was efficient. The place is packed and didn't have much personal space and was so loud but it was expected given how busy it is during lunchtime."

It was absolutely worth the wait — the place gets packed fast, so joining the waitlist and waiting outside is part of the experience. The tapas themselves aren’t large, but they’re full of flavour and fairly priced. There’s a good range of dishes, so it’s easy to find something whether you eat seafood, meat, or prefer vegetables. Just keep your translator handy, as the menu is written on the blackboard in Spanish. The setting is informal and wonderfully old-school, and the staff are friendly and patient despite the constant rush. We had a great lunch here and left very happy."

Mar 15, 2026"This place is said to be the birthplace of the croquette called “Bomba.” The name “Bomba,” meaning “bomb,” is said to come from the wartime era, possibly inspired by its round shape that resembles a bomb. The combination of chickpeas and black pudding was perfectly seasoned, and I thought it was the most delicious I’ve ever had. The artichokes also disappeared in no time. We had other seafood dishes as well. I think the squid is definitely something you should try. The octopus was served as a whole small octopus. In this case, the seasoning was a bit salty, but I think it goes well if you wash it down with beer or wine. As for the waiting time, if you are alone you can stand and eat and drink, so it seemed that you are guided to the counter quickly. Most groups were pairs. If you go with four people, it takes time until a table for four becomes available, so you may have to wait about 30 minutes. If you have a little time while sightseeing, I recommend stopping by. There were many local people there, so I think it was a good place to experience the local atmosphere of Barcelona."
